“We are back from our journey with a bag full of short films for these previews. In the collective film memory and future revelations we discovered pearls such as ‘Babylon Card Game’, ‘The Man in the Couch’, ‘Eat Love Food Art’, ‘Dance Piece’, ‘I’m Tired’, ‘Monsters in New York’ Fruits of my soul and many more. This work has been specially created for our new show ‘KurzFilmFestival’, which will be presented here in July 2009 in DOCK 11. We are pleased that we are already showing some of these works. During this festivalsneakpreview, we bring the short films from the screen onto the stage: as danced short stories, exciting sound collages, broken love songs or staged still images. We celebrate with our audience the preshow of an event and make it to the event itself. What comes next? Do we ever need a new festival, or are we over-celebrating?”

„Wir sind zurück von unserer Zeitraumfahrt mit einer Tüte voller Kurzfilme für diese Vorpremiere. Im kollektiven Filmgedächtnis und zukünftigen Offenbarungen entdeckten wir Perlen wie: ‚Babylon Card Game‘, ‚Der Mann in der Couch‘, ‚Eat Love Food Art‘, ‚Dancepiece‘, ‚Ich bin müde‘, ‚Monsters in New York‘, Die Früchte meiner Seele und viele mehr. Diese Arbeiten sind extra für unsere neue Show ‚KurzFilmFestival‘ entstanden, die wir im Juli 2009 hier im DOCK 11 präsentieren werden. Wir freuen uns, dass wir schon jetzt einige dieser Arbeiten zeigen. Während dieser Festivalsneakpreview holen wir die Kurzfilme von der Leinwand auf die Bühne: als getanzte Kurzgeschichten, spannende Geräuschkollagen, gebrochene Liebeslieder oder inszenierte Standbilder. Wir feiern mit unserem Publikum die Preshow eines Events und machen sie selbst zum Event. Was kommt danach? Brauchen wir überhaupt ein neues Festival oder sind wir schon überfestivalisiert?“

Howard Katz and Matthias Herrmann are avid cineastes. For their new play, which is to be released in the summer at the same location in Dock 11, they scoured the film archives for remarkable short films and, in a second phase, shot some themselves. The collected works bear such beautiful titles as "The Man in the Couch", "Eat Love, Food Art" or simply: "Dancepiece". The short strips will become the latter, namely a dance piece, on this evening, which is announced as a stopover in the rehearsal process: Katz and Herrmann will act out in Dock 11 all the stories and scenes that have already accumulated for the production "KurzFilmFestival. The "Shorz" titled evening consists, so to speak, of a "festival preview" that has fallen from the screen onto the stage. You can look forward to a colorful sequence of love songs, staged stills and danced scenes - an episodic play instead of an episodic film. It's just the way the maverick Howard Katz likes it, mixing theater with spontaneous poetry, dance with song and stand-up acting with vaudeville in his stage collages.

Howard Katz und Matthias Herrmann sind begeisterte Cineasten. Für ihr neues Stück, das im Sommer an gleicher Stelle im Dock 11 herauskommen soll, haben sie die Filmarchive nach bemerkenswerten Kurzfilmen durchforstet und in einer zweiten Phase selbst welche gedreht. Die gesammelten Werke tragen so schöne Titel wie "Der Mann in der Couch", "Eat Love, Food Art" oder schlicht: "Dancepiece". Zu letzterem, nämlich einem Tanzstück, werden die knappen Streifen an diesem Abend, der als Zwischenstation im Probenprozess angekündigt ist: Katz und Herrmann spielen im Dock 11 nach, was sich für die Produktion "KurzFilmFestival" an Geschichten und Szenen schon alles angesammelt hat. Der "Shorz" betitelte Abend besteht sozusagen in einer "Festival-Preview", die von der Leinwand auf die Bühne gefallen ist. Freuen darf man sich auf eine bunte Nummernfolge aus Liebesliedern, inszenierten Standbildern und getanzten Szenen - Episodenstück statt Episodenfilm. Ganz nach dem Geschmack des Eigenbrötlers Howard Katz, der in seinen Bühnencollagen am liebsten Theater mit Spontandichtung, Tanz mit Gesang und noch Stand-up-Schauspiel mit Vaudeville mischt.
